OCEA - Part Two - Dealing with sensitive issues

If you are worried it’s ok to ask - i.e. do you have suicidal thoughts?
You WILL NOT put an idea of self harm into a student's head by asking direct questions.

I loved the discussion around this point ... people brought up great points about using understandable and clear language

Early treatment can be critical - if you think something is up but can't deal with it yourself for some reason - bring the matter to someone else's attention!

Be calm and caring - non judgemental and supportive is really important

Encourage professional help - we are NOT experts and the most appropriate fcourse of action is to refer the student to a pro!

testing one two three

Some very bright students asked about journalling on line - I have problem with it - although I'm a little worried the reflections won't be as honest as they are on paper when the audience is so clearly defined. Blogging may work well though as comments are easily left and other elements (pictures, videos etc) can be included! I'm excited about trying something new - this whole course this semester seems to be about embracing the new!

I want to test the idea of blogging over the first week and work toward reflective thinking ..

if you think you might be interested in working online and you are in coop at Campbell try commenting on this blog by answering either one of these questions:

1) What are you looking forward to most about COOP? Why?

2) What are you most worried about with regards to COOP? Why?

don't forget to sign your posts so I know you are interested in playing!
